This privacy notice is designed to help you understand how and why North Yorkshire council processes your personal data. This notice should be read in conjunction with our corporate privacy notice.
North Yorkshire council is a ‘data controller’ as defined by Article 4(7) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The council operates CCTV in public spaces including but not limited to market towns, council owned premises and residential sites.
The council also operates mobile re-deployable cameras which are sited in areas of anti-social behaviour hotspots or repeatedly targeted victims. Locations for siting the mobile re-deployable cameras are agreed between the council and North Yorkshire police.

By using CCTV systems, the council collects, stores, and uses static or moving images of individuals located in surveillance areas. The council may be able to identify those individuals by looking at the vehicle registration number or using other existing information.
The council do not routinely collect special category data through its operation of CCTV.
The CCTV data is collected in order to:
The council will only share CCTV footage with other agencies where there is a lawful reason to do so, for example, to share with the police for the purposes of crime prevention.
CCTV footage may also be shared with/accessed by Mayfair Security, who the council has contracted to manage and monitor CCTV operations within the Selby area.

The council will keep your personal data only as long as is necessary to conclude the purpose(s) for which it was collected. CCTV data will be held for a maximum of a month unless this needs to be retained as evidence for criminal and/or civil proceedings. |
