The provision of recycling services is a responsibility shared between the County Council and the seven District Councils in North Yorkshire.

The District Councils provide boxes, bags and bins for collecting materials from the doorstep, and also provide mini-recycling centres in locations such as supermarket car parks and pubs. The County Council provides extensive recycling services at Household Waste Recycling Centres.
