Reserving books and other items

There are several ways of requesting items, including books, periodicals, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and language courses. Once an item is available, you will be notified by email or letter.

Books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and language courses

You can request these items online using our library catalogue. You will need your library card number and PIN.

These items can also be requested by:

  • Making the request in person at any library;

There is a small charge for requesting books. Books that are not in stock can be requested through the inter-library loans scheme, which carries a further charge. There is no charge for requesting audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and language courses, but hire charges still apply when the item is collected.


Periodical articles can be requested in person from any library or by filling in the pdf icon application form for periodicals and periodical articles [26kb] and returning this to us by post or to any library. There is a small charge for this service.
