Marriage - arrangement and ceremonies

Information about marriage ceremonies, including frequently asked questions.

The ceremony

Ceremonies are personalised and can feature readings and music. These ceremonies are available in our offices and also at approved venues. You can view costs here.

The marriage ceremony

A civil marriage ceremony must be entirely non-religious and may not, by law, contain any religious readings or music. Two witnesses aged 16 or over are required to sign the marriage register.

Urgent circumstances

We can make special arrangements at very short notice for a marriage ceremony under special licence, where one person in the relationship is very seriously ill and not expected to recover. Contact your local registration office for further information.
