Finding the discovery centre, parking and access
The discovery centre is on the High Street in the centre of the village, not far from High Green. There is a bus stop a short distance away, which is served by the number 29 and 81 buses. The train station is a 20 minute walk from the village.
There are few parking restrictions in the village and there are no charges for parking. There is a small car park to the rear of the discovery centre building and there are spaces directly in front of the centre. All areas of the discovery centre are accessible to wheelchairs.

Activities at the discovery centre
Regular activities on offer at the centre are shown below. Contact us for further information about any of the activities. For other special events, including children's activity sessions in the holidays, please visit us or see our website.
The art gallery shows art and photography works which are all for sale, featuring local artists with a focus on local landscapes.
Book clubs are welcome to meet at the centre for a small fee; we currently host a book club which meets on the first Wednesday of each month, between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.
We sell second hand books at great prices, perfect for holiday reading; second hand books are gratefully received.
We have an excellent selection of crafts for sale, from local crafters ranging from pottery to woodwork, from knitwear to jewellery.
Information technology taster sessions
Individual sessions introducing people to computers and the internet can be arranged.
The jigsaw library is run every Tuesday during opening hours; for further information please contact Barbara Evans on 01642 723006.
Knit and knatter
The knit and knatter group meet on a Thursday afternoon, from 2pm - 4pm.
A learning and skills adviser is available in the centre on Wednesday afternoons for appointments.
Pre-school children's music sessions are run on a Tuesday from 11am - midday, during term-time.
Police surgeries are held at the centre - see posters in the centre and police communications for details.
Various parts of the centre can be hired for private use, both during and outside opening hours; details are available on request.
Storytime is held for pre-school children on a Tuesday from 2.15pm - 2.45pm during term-time.
The library reopened as the Great Ayton Discovery Centre on 8 May 2012 and is run by volunteers, in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council and Great Ayton Parish Council. Anyone wishing to volunteer with us is very welcome. Please contact us by calling into the centre or by phoning us on 01642 723268.
