North Yorkshire local offer consultation

We would like the views of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their parents/carers about the development of the Local Offer in North Yorkshire.

Consultation background

As part of the implementation of legislative reform within the Children and Families Act 2014, we are developing a Local Offer of services expected to be available for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND 0-25) and their families.

The Local Offer aims to provide a single, accessible picture of services across education, health, social care and the voluntary and community sectors, to enable children and young people and their parents to have greater choice and control about provision in their area. The Local Offer will also be a valuable tool for professionals and practitioners, and will help to inform commissioning and needs analysis, and support greater integration between services.

We have been working alongside children and young people with SEND and their parents to develop the Local Offer. By talking to them, we have developed an initial Local Offer site, which is available on the council's website here.

A simplified version of the Local Offer for young people is also available here.

Consultation questions

Work continues with multi-agency partners to increase the Offer's online information prior to full implementation from September 2014, but we would like your views to help us develop this further.

Based on our work to date, we would like to know your views on the following areas:

  • What do you think about the content of the local offer? Is there anything else that you think would be useful to include?
  • What do you think about the accessibility of information in the local offer? How do you think it could be improved?
  • It is important to seek comments on the local offer from children and young people and their parents, and to take notice of this feedback by publishing and responding to the comments that we receive - how do you think we should do each of these?
  • How can we make some or all of the local offer available to people without access to the internet?
