Leisure bus consultation

We are proposing to exclude some services from the North Yorkshire and York concessionary fare scheme from 1st April 2015. This means all passengers boarding in York and North Yorkshire would be required to pay a fare. We would like to consult with stakeholders to help us understand the impact of withdrawing the concession.

Consultation background

North Yorkshire County Council carried out research earlier in the summer to understand the usage of the Sunday and leisure bus services and we would like to thank those that took part. A summary of the key results is available on the public transport page of our website. The analysis of this data demonstrates that these services cater primarily for tourists and are operated for the purpose of tourism and as such are not eligible services for concessionary fares as defined in the guidance published by the Department for Transport.

We are therefore proposing to exclude the following services from the North Yorkshire and York concessionary fare scheme from the 1st April 2015. This means that all passengers boarding in York and North Yorkshire would be required to pay a fare.
