Health visiting services consultation

A consultation on arrangements for a new service designed to give the county's youngest children a healthy start in life.

The consultation will shape the delivery of our local birth to five year old healthy child service, usually known as 'health visiting services'. Responsibility for delivering this service was transferred from the NHS to local authorities last month as part of the Health and Care Act 2012. We are committed to ensuring this service continues to be delivered in the most effective and efficient way to meet the needs of the county's families.

The key elements of the birth to five year old healthy child service are:

  • Antenatal health visits;
  • The new baby review;
  • Six to eight weeks assessments;
  • The one year old assessment; and
  • The two to two-and-a-half year old child health review.

The local service will also include additional early help services that support families and their children who are more at risk of poor health and will work closely with our children and young people's prevention service.
