Household waste recycling centres

Our household waste recycling centres will be open over the May bank holiday.

They are open every day except Wednesdays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Opening hours from April to September are 8:30am to 5pm. Please allow enough time to unload your waste before the site closes.

Our customer service phone line will also be closed to all routine queries during this time. However, we will be open for services that require an emergency response. These services include:

Regular service will resume and customer access centres will re-open at 9am on Tuesday 26 May 2026.

While we are closed, many of our services are available online on our website.

Library opening hours

Library opening hours vary across the county, however most of the libraries will be closed on Monday 25 May. Find out more about your local library, including opening times.

Although the buildings may be closed, you can still use North Yorkshire’s free digital library. There are thousands of free eBooks and eAudio books, as well as eNewspapers, eMagazines and eComics available to borrow, and you can consult a wide range of free reference resources, day and night.

You can also find all your digital resources in one place on the North Yorkshire library app, which can be downloaded to mobile devices from the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android devices. Search for ‘North Yorkshire Libraries’.

Registration offices

All registration offices are closed for appointments on Monday 25 May. They will re-open at their normal opening hours from Tuesday 26 May.

You can still book an appointment to register a birth, register a death, give notice of wedding or civil partnership and buy copy certificates online while we are closed.
