Thornborough hengesThe Thornborough Henges complex is located approximately five miles to the northwest of Ripon. The site forms part of a much larger prehistoric landscape between the River Swale and River Ure and stretching from Boroughbridge in the south to Catterick in the north.Since February 2004 the County Council has been working with landowners, representatives from local parish councils and interest groups, including the Friends of Thornborough, as well as representatives from national organisations such as English Heritage and specialists such as Dr Jan Harding from Newcastle University; over the future of the Thornborough Henges and the surrounding landscape. The Thornborough Henges Advisory Group meetings provide a forum for individuals, groups and organisations with an interest in the Henges to exchange views, discuss issues and to formulate and discuss proposals for the management and interpretation of the Henges and surrounding landscape. The group meets twice a year and is supported by a part time project co-ordinator. The groups consist of representatives from the following organisations: Thornborough Henges Advisory Group*
