Roald Dahl Day on Sunday September 13 marks the birthday of the author of children's classics like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, featuring eccentric factory owner Willy Wonka.
To celebrate the event the County Council is giving every child under the age of 16 who borrows a book from their local library between 12th to 19th September, the chance to win a golden ticket which will take them on an exclusive trip to the Nestle confectionary headquarters in York.
The trip will include a tour of the demonstration kitchen at Nestle, where the children will be shown how the world-famous Kit Kat bar, which has been produced in York since 1935, is made, as well as being given the opportunity to make their own chocolate. The children will hear about the history of chocolate and chocolate-making at the factory.
County Councillor Chris Metcalfe. North Yorkshire's executive member for library and information services said: "With only five golden tickets available make sure any children you know pop down to their local library between 12th and 19th of September to be in with a chance to win this magical prize. The five children will also receive some Roald Dahl books to commemorate the birthday of a national treasure."
