Consumers to get first-hand advice

North Yorkshire's residents are being given the chance to get first hand advice on their consumer rights from dedicated professionals, thanks to the County Council's trading standards team. The county's trading standards and planning services are teaming up with Scarborough Citizen's Advice Bureau for a special consumer advice session on Friday 18th September at the Roscoe Street Bureau.

The event is part of the Trading Standards Institute National Consumer Week, which this year has the theme of "Know Your Rights". Trading standards services up and down the country are running a number of events to help consumers and businesses to be clear on the rights of the consumer and the responsibilities of business. The Scarborough advice session will run from 10:00am until 12:30pm.

Len Swift, the County Council's divisional trading standards officer is hoping to meet members of the public from Scarborough who may have specific questions for him. Len writes his monthly column in the North Yorkshire Times on a variety of consumer issues.

County Councillor Clare Wood, North Yorkshire's executive member for Trading Standards and Planning Services said "Our trading standards officers handled over 10,000 consumer enquiries from members of the public in North Yorkshire last year. The enquiries ranged from simple advice about buying cars to their consumer rights when things go wrong. We hope this session will give people a great opportunity to get first-hand advice."
