Civic recognition and awards
The chairman's duty is to represent and promote North Yorkshire County Council at all civic and ceremonial occasions as well as chair the full County Council meetings. The position of chairman is held by a councillor and is apolitical.
The Chairman of the Council is appointed each year in May at the County Council's annual general meeting and the position is held for a period of one year.
A Vice-Chairman is also appointed to represent the Chairman should they be unable to accept an invitation.
- The Chairman of North Yorkshire County Council is County Councillor Bernard Bateman.
- The Vice-Chairman of North Yorkshire County Council is County Councillor Tim Swales.
