Waste management
The waste management service carries out the County Council's functions as a waste disposal authority and manages former landfill sites and other waste management assets so as to minimise their impact on the environment.
We do this through the cost-effective provision of high quality waste treatment, recycling, composting and disposal services, and through leading or actively participating in appropriate partnership arrangements such as the York and North Yorkshire waste partnership. The unit is split into two groups - waste services and strategic procurement. The activities carried out by the waste services group fit broadly into six categories: - administration and service support
- contract management
- asset management
- performance and information management
- policy and strategy development
- waste prevention, education, outreach and community liaison
The strategic procurement group has been created to procure contracts and provide locations for the development of facilities to provide a long term waste management service. It is split into two teams; one delivering the contract procurement and the other delivering on sites and planning issues. About waste management
