Animal Welfare is a function carried out by both the district councils and the County Council. The County Council's remit relates to farmed animals.

The Animal Health and Welfare team respond to farmed animal welfare reports from the public, and undertakes proactive work at livestock markets and abattoirs to ensure the welfare of farmed animals.

The North Yorkshire district councils offer dog warden services. The district council also carry out the licensing function in relation to boarding kennels, zoos, pet shops and riding stables. Below you will find link to the district councils pages on the licensing of these establishments.
