Trading standards - under age sales

In order to protect the health and wellbeing of young people, laws exist to restrict their access to certain products.

Here is a list of age restricted products and the age restriction applicable to the product:

  • Alcohol - 18
  • Fireworks - 18
  • Knives/axes/blades - 18
  • Lighter refills - 18
  • Solvents  - 18
  • Tobacco products - 18
  • Videos, video games and DVDs classified 18
  • Aerosol spray paint - 16
  • Lottery tickets - 16
  • Petroleum spirit - 16
  • Party poppers,  cracker snaps, novelty matches - 16
  • Videos, video games and DVDs classified 15
  • Videos, video games and DVDs classified 12

Trading Standards provide advice to traders and undertake enforcement activities to deal with the issue of underage sales.
