Libraries - information servicesIf you live at a distance, library staff will research your enquiry for up to half-an-hour without a charge. The information service can search a wide range of library materials for you. We also offer a business information research service in conjunction with Birmingham library service.
Research serviceWe can perform research for you on a wide range of subjects. It doesn't matter what your question might be. Library staff have looked up answers for queries ranging from finding an estate agent for a family moving into the area, looking up a specific issue of a local newspaper for a death notice, to biographical detail on a Yorkshire photographer. We aim to provide a response or acknowledgement within five working days of your request. How long the research takes will depend on the complexity of the question and the number of staff available for enquiry work. Library staff will divert the enquiry to the most appropriate source if that is considered a better way of answering the question. For example, the question may relate to material held by the North Yorkshire County Record Office, or even a library in another authority. We will let you know if this happens and if it will cause a delay. Charges for the research service There may be some charges for this service. For example, if the research takes over 30 minutes to complete or if staff are required to undertake copying, printing or scanning. For more details, see the library charges page.
