School transport - 16-19 year oldsWe will provide subsidised assistance with transport for eligible students aged 16 years to 19 years (18 years at the start of your course). Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be issued a travel pass allowing them to make return journeys to and from home to school/college during normal school/college time.
FeesThe cost of post 16 transport assistance for an individual student for the academic year 2013/14, is £360. This charge is not means tested. Students and parents should be aware that our post 16 transport assistance may not be the cheapest option for you. You are advised to investigate public transport fares locally and speak to your further education establishment before applying. There is no charge for students with a statement of special educational needs, students who live independently and who are in receipt of income support, registered young carers and students who are in care to the Local Authority. On applying you will need to forward proof of this and also provide a means of payment. However the charge will be waived if you are found to meet this criteria. Payment optionsOur preferred method for receiving applications is online, where you can set up direct debit payments. You can make one payment in full or opt to pay nine monthly instalments (the first payment is taken in October, with the final payment taken in June). If paying by direct debit, payment will only be taken when transport assistance has been approved. If you are unable to apply online, you can apply by post by printing and manually completing an application form. View further information here about applying by post. Please note, terms and conditions apply when applying for post 16 transport assistance. By applying, you are agreeing to these terms and conditions. Please note, students are expected to make their own way to the pick up point. If you live over one mile from the nearest pick-up point, we may be able to offer you a mileage allowance to the pick-up point. Returning your bus pass if your circumstances changeIf you no longer require your bus pass, for instance if you withdraw from your course or have found an alternative means of transport, you must return your pass as soon as possible to the post 16 team at the education office. You are advised to return the pass by recorded delivery as we cannot be held responsible for any loss in the post. It is your responsibility to prove you have returned it to us and you are legally responsible for the full commercial cost of the transport until the pass is no longer required and has been returned to us. On receipt of your pass we will calculate any outstanding balance and send you an invoice for this amount. If you have overpaid us, we will notify you of the refund and will credit your bank account or send you a cheque.
