School - transportPupils of compulsory school age are entitled to free school transport if they live beyond the statutory walking distance. It is the responsibility of the Local Authority (LA) to make arrangements for all eligible children to travel to school in reasonable safety and comfort and arrive there without stress or difficulty so that they can benefit from their education.
Working closely with schools and operators, we are committed to raising the standard of home to school transport throughout the county. All vehicles operating on our services are subject to regular inspections through various licensing authorities. We also undertake additional checks and inspections as part of our ongoing commitment to improve standards, including fitting seatbelts wherever possible and we make sure that our drivers and passenger assistants are all fully trained and have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. It is your responsibility to make sure that your child goes to school. You should also make sure they wear seatbelts (where they are fitted) and behave well on the transport we have provided. Our policy changed in September 2012. This means we no longer offer free transport to denominational schools or 'equivalent cost' journeys to your preferred school. Arrangements for transporting pupils to denominational schools will change in 2016 for secondary aged pupils and 2018 for primary aged pupils, when the network will be reviewed and all provision removed. This will mean that at that point paid permits will not be available for purchase and parents will be responsible for all transport arrangements and costs. It is important that you do not rely on existing travel arrangements when deciding which school you wish your child to attend.
