What are these services?

Public transport - information and advice

The County Council is responsible for public transport and home to school transport across North Yorkshire. We provide contract transport services for a range of clients through contracts with commercial bus, coach and taxi operators.

In partnership with the public transport operators, we aim to secure an integrated public transport network that meets the needs of the community and visitors. The County Council provides financial support on some bus services throughout North Yorkshire.

We produce three area bus guides that cover the whole of North Yorkshire. These guides show bus routes, service description and contact details for the operator. To request a bus guide, please email the integrated passenger transport team with your name and address (including your postcode) and we'll post them to you. Alternatively these guides are available at libraries and tourist information centres. We also provide a 'timetables by post' service for people who do not have access to the internet.

Accessible local bus services

Community transport

The council is working closely with community transport operators to increase the availability of these lifeline services. Visit the community transport page to find out which services are available and which community transport operators run in your area.

Home to school transport

It is the responsibility of the Local Authority to make arrangements for all eligible pupils to travel to school. North Yorkshire is committed to raising the standard of home to school transport throughout the county in order to ensure that all journeys to and from school are both safe and reliable. All vehicles operating on our services are subject to regular inspections through their various licensing authorities. We also undertake additional checks and inspections as part of our ongoing commitment to improve standards.

We work closely with schools and operators to provide safe and reliable transport for pupils. View the school transport page for more information.
