Schools for the future

School building projects are funded through a variety of sources including central government grant provided to the County Council, grant devolved directly to schools and funding provided through central government initiatives to transform primary and secondary schools throughout the country.

Primary capital programme

This is a national programme which aims to ensure that primary schools are equipped for the 21st century. The programme will involve the rebuilding, remodelling or refurbishment of schools across the country to ensure that children can benefit from well designed facilities.

The County Council has three major primary school redevelopment projects, funded through the primary capital programme. These are:

  • Barrowcliff Infant and Junior School, Scarborough
  • Friarage Community Primary School, Scarborough
  • Hinderwell Community Primary School, Scarborough; and

Other schools capital projects

The County Council's Executive recently approved the Schools Capital Programme for 2012/13 which concentrates on meeting existing commitments and addressing priority basic need and condition/modernisation issues.
