Countryside - surveysThe county council undertakes a number of surveys to gather data, however these are mostly focussed on the gathering of wildlife data rather than on areas such as visitor numbers.
Surveys undertaken by or on behalf of the ecology team include habitat and wildlife surveys on Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation, special interest wild flower verges and surveys of Local Geological Sites. The biodiversity officer leads on biodiversity action plan data gathering such as the veteran tree survey. Biological data collected by the county council is passed on to the local biological records centre which is the North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre.
