Forest and woodland management

North Yorkshire County Council is not a major owner of woodland and does not own any countryside sites which require woodland management. Small scale tree works on council land, such as in school grounds, is undertaken by the grounds maintenance team.

Landowners seeking information on forestry and woodland management are advised to contact the Forestry Commission. Another useful organisation is Yorwoods which is a not for profit, public and private sector backed initiative that provides support services to the forestry industry in the Yorkshire region. Yorwoods provide advice on wood fuel initiatives as well as forestry sector training.

North Yorkshire County Council's natural environment team is able to provide free initial advice and site visits in some instances on woodland management, especially if the woodland is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation or if the owner would like to find out how their woodland management can support local biodiversity.
