Bus pass - disabled people

Eligible older and disabled people are entitled to free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England. You can apply for a bus pass either in person or by post. You must apply to the local authority where you live.

Responsibility for issuing the passes changed from the seven district councils to the County Council on 1 April 2011. If you are a resident of the City of York, you should apply to them.

You are eligible to apply for a disabled pass if you:

Are blind or partially sighted;
Are without speech;
Do not have arms or have long-term loss of the use of both arms;
Are profoundly or severely deaf;
Have a disability, or have suffered an injury, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to walk;
Would be refused an application for the grant of a licence to drive a motor vehicle under Part III of the Road Traffic Act 1988, pursuant to section 92 of that Act (physical fitness) otherwise than on the grounds of persistent misuse of drugs or alcohol; or
Have a learning disability.
