Nationality checkingNorth Yorkshire County Council works in partnership with the UK Border Agency to offer a nationality checking service. The service checks applications for British Citizenship to ensure all the paperwork is correct before the application is submitted to the Home Office.
The nationality checking service was set up to help ensure that your citizenship application is properly completed and submitted with all the relevant supporting documents. North Yorkshire County Council can check your application at one of our registration offices on a certain day of the week, to find out which day these checks are carried out please see below. Our staff are trained and registered to check and forward your application. They will photocopy and certify your passport and other valuable documents so that they stay with you for safekeeping and send your application and fee to the Home Office by special delivery.
Using the nationality checking service is optional. You can apply directly to the Home Office yourself or use a solicitor or other agent if you prefer. The checking service fee must be paid at the time the appointment is made. The County Council do not make a profit from providing the nationality checking service. Citizenship ceremonyIf the Home Office approves your application for British citizenship you will be required to attend a citizenship ceremony, which can be held at one of our registration offices. You may specify your preferred venue at the time of your application. If you don't indicate a preference you will automatically be allocated the closest venue to where you live.
