Children and young people - immunisation

Comprehensive, up-to-date and accurate information about vaccines, disease and immunisation can be found on the NHS Choices website. The site contains information for children, young people and their parents and carers about the recommended vaccinations for you and your family.

You can create an interactive wall planner for your child's routine childhood vaccinations. The timetable has been worked out by health professionals to help minimise the risk of catching such diseases as:

  • measles
  • meningitis
  • mumps
  • polio
  • rubella
  • tetanus
  • whooping cough
  • diphtheria

Vaccinations offer the best chance to develop immunity against these potentially serious illnesses.

Routine childhood vaccinations start when your baby at two months old and are normally completed by the time they are 18 years of age, although teenage years are a key time for some important vaccinations. Other non-routine vaccinations may be needed throughout childhood, particularly if you are travelling overseas or if your child has a medical condition.
