School - nursing
School nurses provide a variety of services to children and young people. They can be employed either by the local health authority, primary care trust, community trust or sometimes by the school directly and provide an essential link between school, home and the community which helps safeguard the well-being of children and young people.
School nurses have numerous responsibilities which include: - supporting children with complex health needs
- running immunisation and vaccination programmes
- running drop-in clinics, parenting programmes and bed-wetting clinics
- assessing the health needs of every five-year-old pupil
- providing health schemes for young people
- providing health and sex education within schools
