Pig movements Keepers of pigs, other than markets, must notify the British Pig Executive (BPEX) of all movements of pigs from their holdings before the movement takes place. This can be done electronically (weblink below), in writing or by telephoning the MLCSL bureau. Address: MLCSL, Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 2TL Telephone: 0844 335 8400 A Haulier summary document will be generated and this document must accompany the pigs on their journey. Within 3 days of receipt of the pigs, the new keeper must confirm with MLCSL the movement onto the holding. The new keeper should receive a copy of the haulier summary which they must keep for 6 months. Moves on and off a holding must be recorded in your farm records within 36 hours of the movement. At least once a year you must record the number of pigs on your holding. Records must be retained for 3 years. Prior to any movement the owner/keeper shall inspect the livestock to be moved for signs of foot and mouth disease. If any evidence of such disease is found it must be notified without delay to the Divisional Veterinary Manager of the local DEFRA Animal Health Divisional Office. If any evidence of disease is found, the general licence shall be invalidated, and no animals kept on the premises of departure may be moved.
