Can I have a companion bus pass for someone to travel with me?

If you have an older persons bus pass you are not entitled to have a companion travel with you. If you require a companion to travel with you because you are or have become disabled you will need to apply for a disabled persons bus pass.

You will qualify for a companion if you are:

  • In receipt of higher rate mobility component Disability Living Allowance; or
  • The higher rate care component Disability Living Allowance; or
  • In receipt of higher rate Attendance Allowance; or
  • Registered sight impaired (partially sighted) or severely sight impaired (blind); or
  • Are a young person under the age of 19, with a learning disability, resident in North Yorkshire and attending a registered special school full-time.

Please be aware that your companion need not travel with you on every journey, and need not be the same person each time. However, under no circumstances can the companion travel without the disabled pass holder.
