Highways - licences

If you are working on or around the highway (which can include pavements, footpaths, roads or pedestrianised areas) or operate a business on the highway (such as a street café) you may require a licence.

The types of licence relating to the highway that North Yorkshire County Council are responsible for providing and enforcing are listed below.

	Licence - building materials If you plan to store building materials on the highway you need a licence for this. Find out more and apply here.
	Licence - highway projection Canopies, blinds, CCTV, displays etc which may protrude or project over the highway require a licence. Find out more and apply here.
	Licence - mobile mechanical plant machinery If you operate mobile mechanical plant machinery such as cherry pickers or scissor lifts you need a licence. Find out more and apply here.
	Licence - scaffolding and hoarding Any scaffolding or hoarding which encroaches or projects over the highway requires a licence. Find out more and apply here.
	Licence - skips You require a permit to place a skip on the highway. Find out more and apply here.
	Licence - street café Cafés and restaurants require a licence to place tables, chairs etc onto a footpath or pedestrianised area. Find out more and apply here.
