What happens once I have submitted my application for a residential disabled parking bay? How long will it take?
The table bellow illustrates the stages of processing your application for a residential disabled parking bay:
Stage: | Process: | Stage 1: Eligibility assessment | When we receive the application form and supporting documents we will check your application against the eligibility criteria. | If you don't meet the eligibility criteria | We will contact you to inform you that your application has been declined and the reasons for this. | If you meet the eligibility criteria | We will visit the address to check that it meets the highway specific conditions and that it is safe and practical to put a parking bay near to your house. | Stage 2: Highway condition assessment | If the site does not meet the criteria | We will contact you within 20 working days of application to inform you that your application has been declined and the reasons for this. | If the site does meet the criteria | We will contact you within 20 working days of application to confirm that you are eligible for the service and the site is suitable for a residential disabled parking bay. The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process will be initiated. | Stage 3: Traffic Regulation Order A minimum of 3 months, however, this will be significantly longer if objections are received. | The County Council will prepare and advertise a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). | If there are objections | The local County Council Area Committee will need to consider the objection(s) and make a final decision on whether or not a residential disabled parking bay can be introduced. If you application is: - Declined- We will contact you to inform you that your application has been declined and the reasons for this.
- Approved- your application will proceed to stage 4.
| If there are no objections | Where there are no objections to the TRO, the residential disabled parking bay will be installed. | Stage 4: Install A minimum of 6 months from receipt of application | If the residential disabled parking bay is approved, contractors will be instructed to install the sign and road markings. The applicant must ensure that any pathways or dropped kerbs that are required to access the residential disabled parking bay are in place prior to the installation of the sign and road markings. Please note that installation will take a minimum of 6 months from receipt of application. This will be longer if: - Objections are received
