Library volunteers - you can make a difference

Libraries across North Yorkshire are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of duties. In return, they offer people the chance to make a positive difference in their local communities.

The following volunteering opportunities are currently available in North Yorkshire libraries:

Volunteering to help with general library duties

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of duties in North Yorkshire libraries.

Volunteers of all ages can gain valuable work experience and learn new skills, with young people in particular benefiting from the opportunity to add volunteering to their CV. For people who feel lonely or isolated, volunteering is also a great way to build their confidence and make new friends.

"When I started I was so nervous. I thought I'd maybe last one or two weeks at most, but I became addicted and just love helping at the library. It has changed my life and made me a much better person. I hope I can volunteer for many years to come."
Volunteer Linda Clark, Harrogate library

Examples of volunteer roles are available to download below. You can also read about the experiences of other volunteers.

Volunteering to help deliver the home library service

Volunteers are needed to help deliver the home library and information service across North Yorkshire.

Volunteers need to be available to deliver the books on a set weekday, during the day and it usually takes about two hours. We are often looking for volunteers to help organise the delivery rotas too and would like to hear from you if you think you could help.

"The volunteers have brought great pleasure, companionship and excellent stories to my life"
