What are these services?

How do I report a problem or concern with vehicles parking on the highway outside of a controlled parking zone?

If you have a concern about vehicles parking on the highway outside of a controlled parking zone that is not in accordance with the Highway Code, you should contact North Yorkshire Police by dialling 101 from your landline or mobile phone.

If your concern is regarding legally parked vehicles on the highway that you feel are causing a potential safety hazard e.g. the road has no parking restrictions but is very narrow and therefore would restrict the free passage of the emergency services, you should contact the County Council to investigate.

For your request to be dealt with you must provide the following information:

  • Location and street name
  • Reasons for your request
  • Your contact details

Often, neighbours may share your concerns and you are advised to gauge the support of local residents or your County Councillor if you wish the County Council to consider the introduction of waiting restrictions prohibiting parking. This ensures that should the proposal be brought forward, objections are unlikely to be lodged against the measures.

You can report parking on the highway that is causing concern by:

North Yorkshire County Council, County Hall, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, DL7 8AD | Tel: 0845 8 72 73 74 | Fax: 01609 532009
