Residents parking permit - eligibility

Residents parking schemes are in operation throughout a number of locations across the County.

Generally, permits are issued to residents who live within a controlled parking zone. Permits are issued specific to a particular zone in order to prevent residents from one zone generating parking problems in adjacent zones.

Proprietors of businesses within some zones in the Harrogate district may also apply to buy permits to park on streets within the zone.

As there are a limited number of on-street parking spaces in each of the zones, there may also be a limit on the number of permits which each household or business may be entitled to purchase. As the name of the schemes imply, priority is generally given to residents.

A number of residential parking schemes are administered by North Yorkshire County Council, for which a number of eligibility conditions apply:

Parking permits for residential parking schemes in the Harrogate and Scarborough districts are administered by Harrogate Borough Council and Scarborough Borough Council respectively on behalf of the North Yorkshire County Council.
