Requesting a new residents parking scheme to be introduced in your street

The provision of all residents' parking schemes on streets in North Yorkshire is the responsibility of the County Council. It is only the administration of issuing residents' parking permits that varies across the County.

For a proposed residents' parking scheme to be considered, a self-appointed champion needs to come forward. This champion could be a resident, the local County Councillor or a member of the District, Parish or Town Council.

The champion will be responsible for identifying the level of support by obtaining signatures from residents in the proposed zone. The champion is advised to read thepdf icon guidance notes [61kb] [pdf] and to contact the County Council before approaching residents.

Applications for new residents parking schemes are assessed and approved in five key stages:

Members of the public should be aware that the process for the assessment and introduction of a residents' parking scheme is complex and time consuming. If approved, It may take around 12 -18 months to complete even a simple scheme.
