Help Skipton remember the Diamond JubileeSkipton library is calling on Craven residents to help to create an online community archive to remember the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Library staff are asking people to share their memories of how Craven celebrated the Diamond Jubilee so that future generations can see how we commemorated this historic event. They are asking for memorabilia including photographs, programmes or stories that could be added to a digital archive. Photographs collected by Skipton library in the run-up to the Diamond Jubilee, which show how Craven celebrated the Coronation and Silver Jubilee, are available to view online via Skipton library's HistoryPin website. The collection includes some rare colour photographs of Skipton in 1977, which were found in Skipton Civic Society's archive. County councillor Chris Metcalfe, executive member for library and information centres, said: "North Yorkshire's libraries have a key role in collecting and preserving the history of their local area and the Diamond Jubilee is an ideal opportunity for libraries to work with local communities to celebrate this historic event." So, if you or your friends took photographs of last week's celebrations and are happy for them to be shared online, contact John Frankland on 0845 034 9538 or email skipton.library@northyorks.gov.uk 8 June 2012 |
