Sutton Bank to close for repairs

The A170 at Sutton Bank will be closed for a week from midnight on Sunday, September 9, while the annual repair and maintenance work on the road is carried out.

It will be closed all day Monday, September 10, until the end of the following Sunday, September 16. The work is essential to ensure that this important route is kept in good order. The work this year will include the replacement of the crash barrier and an inspection of the rock face.

"This work will inevitably cause some inconvenience to motorists, for which we apologise," said County Councillor Gareth Dadd, executive member for highways. "However, it is vital that the maintenance work on Sutton Bank is completed in time for winter."

Diversions will be signposted along the "caravan route", via Coxwold, Wass and Ampleforth.
