Regeneration projectsNorth Yorkshire is predominantly rural with a number of important market towns and also some more urban areas like Harrogate, Selby and Scarborough. Regeneration in North Yorkshire reflects this diversity with areas of rural development and community regeneration as well as urban regeneration schemes.Regeneration projectsThe County Council works closely with district authorities and Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency for Yorkshire and the Humber, to ensure the county benefits from regeneration projects. Areas such as Scarborough and Selby have benefited from major investment in their renaissance. Scarborough Urban Renaissance has focussed on broadening the economy of the town to ensure quality year-round employment and opportunities for all. The Selby renaissance investment focuses on revitalising the economies of the three main towns - Selby, Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet Market TownsThis includes administering funding schemes such as the Renaissance Market Towns Delegated Fund which assists market towns with projects that will improve the local economy, whether through increasing tourism, environmental improvements, increasing access to services or encouraging people to shop locally. The Council also supports networking and collaboration between market towns so that towns can learn from each other and develop joint projects.
