Trading standards - advice to businessThe Trading Standards Service aims to support businesses in North Yorkshire by providing comprehensive, easily accessible and relevant advice which will enable those businesses to meet their legal obligations. Our advice and enforcement work also helps to ensure businesses are competing on a level playing field as we have a consistent approach to all businesses. Advice is provided to any business trading in North Yorkshire free of charge. You simply need to contact us using the details below. We follow the nationally agreed 'Home Authority Principle' which states that where a business has multiple outlets, the Trading Standards authority in whose area the head office or decision making base of the business in located is that business's 'home authority'. As such that authority is primarily responsible for providing advice to the business. You can find out more about this principle by downloading the explanatory leaflet from the 'Useful downloads' section below. We know that many of the current scams and frauds are targeted at businesses. To help businesses overcome this threat we set up our Newsflash email alert system. Registered businesses receive emails warning them of the latest scams. In addition, they receive emails updating them on changes in legislation relevant to their trade sector. Registration is easy and free. You can join using the downloadable form in the 'Useful downloads' section below. You can also let us know about any scams, or anything you think may be a scam, via email or phone using the contact details below. We can then use your information to warn other businesses. Business advice is also available via your local district council. Links to each of the seven district councils in North Yorkshire can be found in "weblinks" below.
