Licence - animal movement

This page gives details of any animal movement restrictions that are in force and related details, as well as providing weblinks to further information.

Livestock movements

All sheep, goat and pig movements must be accompanied by an appropriate completed Animal Movement Licence document. The completed top white copy of the Animal Movement Licence document must be sent to the Local Authority local to the destination premises within 3 days of the movement taking place. For destination premises in North Yorkshire, the white copy should be sent to the address below. This is the responsibility of the recipient of the animals

  • The pink copy must be retained by the destination premises.
  • The blue copy must be retained by the haulier
  • The yellow copy must be retained by the departure premises

Cattle

Cattle movements must be accompanied by their passport. All cattle movements must be notified to the British Cattle Movement Service, electronically or by post, within 3 days of the movement taking place.

Prior to any movement the owner/keeper shall inspect the livestock to be moved for signs of foot and mouth disease. If any evidence of such disease is found it must be notified without delay to the Divisional Veterinary Manager of the local DEFRA Animal Health Divisional Office. If any evidence of disease is found, the general licence shall be invalidated, and no animals kept on the premises of departure may be moved.
