The County Council has a corporate procurement strategy. The vision set out in this strategy is to ensure that the County Council:

• Contributes to the achievement of the County Council's objectives;
• Achieves value for money;
• Delivers high quality services;
• Is compliant with all regulatory requirements;
• Addresses the need for sustainability; and
• Encourages local suppliers to bid for appropriate work.

Purchasing is highly devolved, with officers in directorates seeking quotations and tenders, issuing orders and authorising payments for goods and services. These officers work closely with staff from the North Yorkshire Procurement Service (NYPS) who provide consultancy on a wide range of procurement activities for the County Council.
