Asylum seekers - advice and support

This covers those who:

• Applied for asylum while in the United Kingdom (known as in-country) before 3 April 2000.
• Applied for asylum before 3 April 2000, who received a first negative decision before 25 September 2000 and are on appeal.

All other asylum seekers needing help with accommodation and/or subsistence should approach the National Asylum Support Service (NASS) for assistance.

The County Council provides support for families and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children as part of its statutory responsibilities.

Where asylum seekers have community care needs, for example they have a physical or learning disability, they are entitled to an assessment for community care services, in the same way as all other North Yorkshire residents.
