What are these services?

Early education funding

The Local Authority provides funding to enable early education providers, in both the maintained and non maintained sectors, to offer free part-time early education places to eligible three and four year olds.

The Local Authority also holds a directory of providers eligible to claim this funding. Maintained providers (for example schools) are automatically included but non-maintained providers are required to formally register with the North Yorkshire County Council.

To be eligible for inclusion, non-maintained providers must be one of the following:

  • registered with Ofsted as a daycare provider
  • registered with the Department for Education (DFE) as an independent school
  • a registered childminder working within an approved National Childminding Association (NCMA) network.

The Local Authority attaches conditions to inclusion in the directory, to ensure the provision is of a suitable standard, and providers are required to sign an annual contract.
