Schools library service - advice and training

The school library service provides a resources loan and library advisory service to educational establishments within North Yorkshire and the City of York.

By using the school library service you can:

  • save time and money;
  • respond quickly to curriculum demands;
  • develop your pupils' reading and learning experiences; and
  • improve the quality of your school's resources

We offer a range of services and facilities, including:

  • advice, including library policy, development of new libraries and using ICT in libraries;
  • a project loans service, providing specially selected resources for all subjects and key stages to support the National Curriculum;
  • reading development loans;
  • a book purchase scheme for school libraries and classroom collections;
  • new and recommended books;
  • resources to support literacy and numeracy;
  • book promotion and information skills sessions for children;
  • support for reading clubs and out of school hours activities;
  • continuing professional development for teachers;
  • newsletter and telephone support; and
  • giving talks on children's books to encourage children to enjoy reading and to develop their independent learning skills
