What are these services?

School - supervised medication

Although there is no statutory duty which requires school staff to administer medication, Heads and school staff are expected to use their best endeavours at all times, and particularly in emergencies.

Parents who have children who require medication during the school day are encouraged to discuss their child's needs with their school. A standard authorisation form is available for schools to use although some schools do produce variations of this form for parents to complete.

Guidance on the management of medicines is contained in the County Council's "Managing the health care needs of children and young people" manual, a copy of which can be downloaded below..

More information can be found in the Department of Health and Department of Education document "Managing Medicines in Schools and Early Years Settings", which was issued in March 2005. A copy of this document can be also downloaded below.
