Special educational needs - information for parentsSome children find it much harder to learn than others and need extra help. They have "special educational needs".The Children and Young People's Service provides a wide variety of specialist support and aims to ensure that all children and young people have access to educational provision which is appropriate to their special educational needs. This will enable them to raise achievements and develop their full potential. However, we can only achieve this through working in partnership with parents, pupils, schools and other relevant agencies such as health and social services. If you think that your child has special needs, you should talk to their class teacher. If your child is under school age, there are other professionals with whom you can discuss your concerns such as your General Practitioner (GP), Health Visitor or Early Years Support Teacher. These pages describe the services we provide for children with special educational needs.
