Education - mentoring schemes

Youth Mentors work with children in a one-to-one relationship or with small groups in a school environment. They carry a caseload of children and young people with complex needs and work alongside professionals from other agencies with the aim of promoting the educational progress and achievement of young people in the Local Authority's care. This might also involve the co-ordination of alternative educational provision.

The main requirements are:

• a final level qualification in Social Work, Youth Work or a NVQ3 in a related field is essential
• a minimum of three years experience of working within a Social Care, Education or Connexions environment working with children and young people
• a knowledge of the issues for Looked After children is highly desirable.
