Planning applications

Planning applications are required to go through the statutory consultation and publicity procedures required by law. Proposals to develop land and/or buildings are submitted as planning applications.

Residential, commercial and/or industrial planning applications

The County Council deals with mineral and waste planning applications and their own buildings and property. Your local district/borough council will deal with residential, commercial and industrial applications. Please use the external links below to access the district and borough council websites.

Please note: If your planning development falls within a National Park, you will need to visit their website for more information and to apply. See: http://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/ or: http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/ as appropriate.

How to submit a planning application

There are two ways to apply:

  1. Online via the planning portal;
  2. Download an application form from our website:

You can complete your planning application in paper form and submit it to the County Council via the post, or alternatively e-mail the completed form to planning.control@northyorks.gov.uk.

The relevant application forms, certificates, notices and guidance notes are available to download from the planning application forms page.

Online planning register

Our online planning register allows you to:

  • Search our database and monitor the progress of applications through the planning system;
  • View records of applications determined by the County Council including the Decision Notices; and
  • Submit comments on current applications.
