Recycling, rubbish and waste

North Yorkshire County Council is a Waste Disposal Authority (WDA) and is responsible for:

  • The management of residual household waste (the rubbish that remains after reuse and recycling has taken place) and commercial and industrial waste collected by the District Councils
  • Providing household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) where the public can dispose of bulky items of household waste - and for the recycling, composting or disposal of waste delivered to them
  • The payment of incentives to community groups and District Councils to encourage recycling and/or reuse.  These are known as recycling or reuse credits.

If you would like any further information about recycling or would like to find out the location of your nearest HWRC please visit the individual web pages or contact the Waste Management Team.
