Pollution control - asbestosThe existence of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) in buildings is quite commonplace. It is not unsafe generally providing it remains sealed and undisturbed. The current Health Safety and Environment (HSE) guidance is to manage this rather than remove it.
Should you have any particular concerns over materials containing asbestos in your building and risks to health, you should consult the Environmental Health Department of the District Council appropriate to your location.
Disposal of small quantities of cement bonded asbestosResidents of North Yorkshire can dispose of small quantities of cement bonded asbestos at the following Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC).
Cement bonded asbestos must be double bagged or wrapped in two layers of thick plastic. Any joints or openings must be securely sealed with strong tape. These precautions are necessary to prevent any dust escaping if the material is broken when another bag is loaded into the skip. This will protect site staff and customers from asbestos dust. Please note that if your material is not securely wrapped in this manner, you will be refused permission to dispose of the material and will have to remove it from the site.
